MSC Seaside christened in thrilling Miami Naming Ceremony
MSC's newest addition to its fleet, the MSC Seaside, has been christened in a star-studded event in Miami. Among the guests were Latin pop singer Ricky Martin, Andrea Bocelli, TV personality Mario Lopez, and Miami Dolphin quarterback Dan Marino.
MSC, which has long been a mainly European-based cruise line, hopes to expand further to North America. The MSC Seaside, specially designed for the warm Caribbean weather, stands out in a crowded field of cruise ships. It is known for its various outdoor areas, such as the broad promenade deck and its stunning aft pool on deck 8. MSC managed to make cruisers, which were previously more inclined to cruise with Royal Caribbean, Carnival, or Norwegian, reconsider their choices, as MSC offers affordable vacations on a state of the art ship.
MSC's rapid expansion is proving to be very successful. The company managed to get the 3rd place in this year's Cruise Line of the Year awards, while the MSC Seaside managed to get the 2nd place in the Cruise Ship category (only falling short to the Harmony of the Seas). A couple of years ago few Americans knew the MSC brand, but today the MSC Seaside can be found all over Social Media and the hype around that ship is far from ending. MSC has announced, it would invest $12 billion on 12 new ships by 2026, making the US market even more important. "This (the US market) is no longer, for us, a potential market. This is a top priority," said Gianni Onorato, CEO of MSC Cruises, "Obviously this is a competitive market, it will be very important that we are able to clearly list the differences of our product and why North American customers should try an MSC cruise instead of another one."
With the MSC Seaside the differences are quite clear. It is a very exciting ship with an interesting concept.
Bringing the cruiser closer to the sea with more outdoor spaces. Moreover, it combines activities offered by several different cruise lines, such as the Aqua Park, Zip-Line, and the Seawalk.
To see if MSC manages to convince the North American masses to cruise on one of their ships, we will have to wait for the numbers. Yet, one thing is sure: The MSC Seaside is certainly a ship to consider!
